It looks like director Mathew Cullen wasn't kidding when he said that, aside from [artist id="988"]Green Day[/artist], "there isn't another single person" featured in their upcoming "Know Your Enemy" video.
Because judging from the exclusive behind-the-scenes footage we've gotten our hands on, there isn't anyone else in the "Enemy" video — which will premiere April 24 on more than 250 MTV on-air and online outlets worldwide — except for some flames. Well, producer Butch Vig can be seen milling around in the background for about one second.
But since the 24th is still a ways away, we decided to give you a sneak peek at the making of "Know Your Enemy," which was shot in downtown Los Angeles in late March. Check out Green Day rocking out, catching fire and wearing what Cullen described as "timeless" Mod-inspired getups. Aside from all that, the rare mega-huge video puts the music front and center. And that was a decision that was as much Cullen's as it was the band's.
"They're an incredible group — one of the biggest bands in the world, and one of the most significant. So I had this idea of keeping it simple, of letting the music guide the video, and I didn't know how they'd take it," Cullen told MTV News. "As it turns out, they were into it. Because despite being one of the hugest bands in the world, they're also one of the most trusting and collaborative. So that made my job easy."
Green Day's "Know Your Enemy" video will premiere April 24 at 8 p.m. ET on MTV, MTV2, MTV Hits, VH1, The N and MTV Networks' HD channel, Palladia — plus MTV and VH1's international channels — in addition to MTV.com and VH1.com.
