With more and more details emerging about the charges filed against [artist id="1961441"]Chris Brown[/artist], people have been flocking to MTV News not only to find out the latest, but also to weigh in on the situation.
The news first broke on Sunday that the Los Angeles Police Department was investigating Brown for a report of domestic violence. Brown turned himself in late Sunday evening and was charged with making criminal threats before being released on $50,000 bail.
And while the LAPD — citing rules to protect the victims of domestic violence — has not officially confirmed that [artist id="1940303"]Rihanna[/artist] was the victim in the case, a number of media outlets have, and she is reportedly cooperating with the investigation.
From the moment MTV News reported on the developments, many of you have shared your thoughts. "I'm not a huge fan of either artist, but I hate to see this happening to such young artists that are both on top of their game right now. I hope that she is okay and that it is something that she will be able to move away from. No one deserves to be abused," said Dprk7rk79.
"Just waiting until the whole story comes out before I can comment on something that did or didn't happen," said shannon504.
While some have chosen to reserve their opinions, many have started to take sides as details develop. As more news of the allegations against Brown were revealed, many fans have condemned his alleged actions. "I think Chris Brown has some inner demons that he needs to deal with. When you're that young and have all that fame, you tend to forget that you are not above the law, and he now faces a lot of sponsors that will drop him," said Wing70.
"I love Rihanna, and she is an amazing artist all around. I do appreciate Chris' music as well, but he's got a lot of growing up to do," said JessBlazye.
Brown does have plenty of supporters, however, who are skeptical that he would have done this without being provoked. "I don't think Chris would just a hit a girl like that. She had to do something or say something out the way for him to really hurt her," said Nika2hot.
There are even some supporters who feel he will be forgiven over time, like celebrities before him have been. "If people can forgive Britney for going all crazy, then why can't they do it for him," said Breebooluzya. "No matter if he did it or not, I'm still a fan of Chris Brown!"
Some maintain that there are many sides to this story. "Despite what we think, there are three sides to a story: his side, her side, and the truth. I don't know what that is, because I was not there," said MizDIva34.
Opinions on the charges against Brown are mixed outside of the MTV News offices in Times Square as well. Some were skeptical that Brown — who previously enjoyed a squeaky-clean image — would be charged with something so violent.
"He doesn't seem like that type from his personality," said Titus Willams. "It doesn't really seem like he would put his hands on Rihanna." He said that Brown would take a hit image-wise, but he would maintain his fanbase.
They all agreed that Rihanna was talented artist who would continue to be successful. Travis Peterson said that he hadn't learned the full details of the case until recently, but he said that while it might be a personal setback for her, she would receive a bump in publicity.
