"We just released the video [for the single 'La La Land'], which is promoting my show," she said of "Sonny," which premieres February 8. "It really describes the show. I'm excited about that."
Lovato likens "Sonny With a Chance" to another "show within a show." "The show is actually a sitcom. It's the Disney version of '30 Rock,' " she said of the show's premise. "On that show, we have a rivalry with another show, and there's so many, like, crazy plot lines. I play this girl who comes to L.A., or Hollywood, and is kind of thrown into all this madness."
According to Lovato, her character, Sonny, is a lot like her. She's a small-town girl who finds fame and fortune in Los Angeles. "And she's, like, this little Midwestern or Wisconsin girl I kind of can relate to," said Lovato, who performed for the Obama girls at the "Kids' Inaugural: We Are the Future" concert in Washington, D.C., on Monday. "I'm from Texas and I'm thrown into this [thing that's like], 'Whoa everything is awesome.' It's really interesting."
Lovato also has support from her pal and "Princess Protection" co-star Selena Gomez, who told TVGuide.com that she'd love to share some screen time with her friend. "We're working on [a cameo]," Gomez said. "We'd love to have Demi on ['Wizards.'] And I'd love to be a guest star on her show."
