They hooked up for "Beach Chair" on Jay-Z's Kingdom Come album and recently did it again for "Lost+" on Coldplay's just-released Prospekt's March EP. And while they didn't have anything to do with it, musical odd couple [artist id="1269"]Jay-Z[/artist] and [artist id="1111141"]Coldplay[/artist] had their music mashed-up by mixtape vets Mick Boogie and Terry Urban recently on Viva la Hova.
Clearly, these artists have a thing going on, and next year they're going to take it to the next level, when Jay joins the English rockers for three stadium dates on their home turf. A spokesperson for Jay-Z confirmed that the rapper will be the special guest at three Coldplay shows in 2009, beginning with a September 12 date at the Lancashire County Cricket Club in Manchester, England. He will also be on hand for a September 16 date at Hampden Park in Glasgow and a September 19 gig at Wembley Stadium in London.
Jay and Coldplay singer Chris Martin, as well as wives [artist id="3117360"]Beyoncé[/artist] and [movieperson id="48379"]Gwyneth Paltrow[/movieperson], seem to have become close friends over the past few years. [artist id="1230523"]Kanye West[/artist] as much as takes credit for their collaboration in his song "Big Brother," rapping, "I told Jay I did a song with Coldplay/ Next thing I know, he got a song with Coldplay."
And like West, Jay has been branching out beyond hip-hop with some of his own cameos over the past year, which includes verses on the "Oh Girl" remix by modern soul singer Raphael Saadiq, as well as the "Boyz" remix for M.I.A.
