Mos Def Issued Arrest Warrant In Las Vegas For Allegedly Smashing Photographer's Camera

Event photographer claims the rapper destroyed his equipment and ran off with it.

Police in Las Vegas would like to chat with rapper Mos Def about an incident that allegedly went down in August.

TMZ reports that an arrest warrant has been issued for Def (born Dante Terrell Smith). The actor/rapper is facing charges of felony robbery and malicious destruction of private property.

Police claim Mos was involved in an altercation with a photographer during a fashion event in Sin City. Volker Corell -- an official photographer for the Men's Apparel and Garment Industry Convention (MAGIC) -- says the rapper got irritated with him while he was taking photos of attendees at the event. Def allegedly ripped Corell's camera from his neck and threw it against the ground, smashing it. The photographer said Def ran off, with the busted equipment in hand, soon after the scrap.

Corell also claims he suffered a cut on his left hand during the attack.

This is the second incident in recent months in which a hip-hop artist has had a brush with a photographer and allegedly destroyed his equipment. Back in September, [article id="1594592"]Kanye West was arrested by Los Angeles International Airport police[/article] after getting into a scuffle with two paparazzi. While West was initially charged with felony vandalism, those charges were later dropped by the Los Angeles district attorney.

This situation seems to put Mos Def in a less sympathetic light, however, since Corell was a credentialed event photographer, not a paparazzo. And according to TMZ, he says he didn't even know who Mos Def was until after the incident.
