Paris Hilton has been ordered to appear in court Friday for a hearing that will determine whether she should be sent back to jail, MSNBC reported late Thursday (June 7).

According to TMZ.com, Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo filed a motion requesting the judge who sentenced the heiress to force her to return to jail to serve out her entire sentence, according to documents obtained by TMZ.com. Judge Michael Sauer approved Delgadillo's request for a hearing to demand why the Sherriff's Department should not be held in contempt for "violating Judge [Michael] Sauer's May 4, 2007, order, which expressly stated 'no electronic monitoring.' " She must report to court at 9 a.m. PT.

Hilton was released from jail Thursday morning and "reassigned" to serve 40 days under house arrest, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said at a press conference.

The spokesperson, Steve Whitmore, said an unspecified medical condition "played a part" in the decision. After consultation with county doctors over several days, the decision was made to reinstate her original 45-day sentence and transfer her to house arrest, with an electronic monitoring bracelet on her ankle. She will receive credit for five days served in jail, which accounts for the 40 days of home confinement. After the 40 days are over, Hilton will have "fulfilled her debt to society," Whitmore said.

Whitmore said privacy rules prohibited him from providing details about the medical issues.

Hilton had been serving at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California. She was admitted to the facility to begin serving her sentence for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case (see [article id="1561567"]"Paris Hilton Turns Herself In To Authorities"[/article]), directly after attending the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night.

Her original 45-day sentence had been reduced to 23 for various reasons, including good behavior, but part of the reassignment included reinstating the original sentence. Hilton was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated in September (see "[article id="1540341"]Paris Hilton Arrested For Suspicion Of Drunk Driving[/article]") and pleaded no contest in January. She was sentenced to three years' probation and her license was suspended.
