Did you really get to work with Bootsy Collins on the new CD? What
was it like?
It was unbelievable. Bootsy is the funk master.
Who do you plan on using on your tour now? Any of you're old band members?
Yes. David Lauser, Jesse Harms, and new people -- Victor Johnson, and
Mona-Mona is the baddest.
I've heard it said that you would like someday to go back on-stage with
Eddie and the guys, is that true?
Yes, but not in a reunion sense.
I have been with you since Montrose. How much Montrose is in your music,
how much VH will you bring with you on your new endeavors?
Two or three Montrose. Five or six VH.
How about you and Dave doing a one off appearance together, like at an
awards show -- someplace high profile. It would be gigantic media
opportunity! Ever consider that?
What is your favorite Van Halen song, and favorite of your own?
My new favorite song is "Marching To Mars." With VH it's "Dreams."
How will your live solo shows differ from playing with VH?
Less solos, more songs, more contact with the audience.
How do you stay in shape to do a tour show with as much energy as you do?
I run, and mountain bike constantly.
Do you respect or rebel against MTV's role in music today? Do you see
as too selective and commercially interested?
My only problem with MTV is that it is no longer Music Television.
If an offer came along to join another high profile band and you clicked
musically would you do it or has the VH experience left a bad taste?
I am always open minded. But I am very happy right now.
Do you find yourself drinking less now that Eddie isn't around?
I never had a problem with drinking.
I was in Cabo the end of February and checked out the Cabo Wabo. Are
thinking of opening up another in Vegas?
No, because Cabo Wabo is special. I don't want to turn it into a Planet
Hollywood or a Hard Rock Cafe.
In all your live events and interviews you and the VH guys looked like
you were having a blast and were friends. Was it just to keep up
appearances, or did all the problems come late in the band's time
The problems came later. We always had a blast playing. It was after the
last tour, and I don't know what happened.

What do you think will happen in 2003 when VH is sure to make the Rock
'n' Roll Hall of Fame at the induction ceremonies. Will you attend?
Of course. I am very proud of having been in Van Halen
I think that Ozzy is cool. Van Halen should have tried to get him to
What singer or band most inspires your music?
Do you owe anything to Van Halen for making your career even more than it
was in solo, and getting more fame?
Absolutely. VH made me a better singer, a better guitar player, better
song writer, and the split made me a better person.
Do you consider yourself to be heavy metal? Solo and with VH?
Why exactly did the band split?
Greed. And stupidity. And none of my doing.
What do you think of the demonic shock rock artist Marilyn Manson?
Great videos, lousy message.
What is your most memorable encounter or song that always stand out in
The most memorable was my baby Kama being born. That inspired a song
"Kama" on my new album Marching to Mars. Birth is a miracle.
What did you think of Rick Springfield making a hit of "I've Done
for You? " Were you mad or glad?
I was happy. I bought a new car.
I want to thank all the fans for making "Little White Lie" the number 1
rock track in America, in just 2 weeks -- my fastest ever, and for my
first day of record sales today. The record company told me they were
