Franz Ferdinand are kicking off their North American tour Tuesday night in Chicago, and chances are pretty good that you're not going. The hype is huge and tickets scarce as the band hits the road in support of its forthcoming second album, You Could Have It So Much Better, and plenty of fans are ticketless and out of luck.
But there's good news on the horizon for the vast, un-ticketed masses. Franz have come up with a competition that pretty much blows any North American tour date out of the water: an exclusive invite to cruise the French countryside (and take in four Franz shows) for free, and chill with the band.
Dubbed the "Tour De Franz Ferdinand," the competition (it's not a contest, they assert) gives one lucky fan — and an even luckier companion — the chance to hang with the Franz after their October 28 show in Paris, plus tickets to the next three shows throughout France. The winners will also get seven days to explore the French countryside, plus $5,000 to spend while on the road, which is probably way more than the dudes in Franz get for their per diems (judging by their recent appearances, they'd just spend it on striped shirts and matching jackets anyway).
Starting on September 26, fans can head on over to mtvU.com to enter the "Tour de Franz" — all you have to do is enter. The competition closes on October 16. For their part, Franz Ferdinand will continue on their North American trek until October 18 (see "Franz Ferdinand Announce Fall Tour Dates") before heading back across the Atlantic to kick off their European tour on October 27 in Leuven, Belgium.
You Could Have It So Much Better is due in stores on October 4, and the band is celebrating its Stateside release with a string of release parties in cities like New York, Denver and San Francisco. Check FranzFerdinand.co.uk for more information.
