Used Lock Lips For 'Fire,' Announce Dates With Glassjaw

Arty new video is band's third from In Love and Death.

With his matted, greasy hair, tattered clothing and propensity for all things dirty, the Used frontman Bert McCracken isn't exactly what you'd call "kissably cute."

But all that might change with the band's new video for "I Caught Fire," which in keeping with the tune's many, many messages of lovemaking and tender kissing, is chock full of lip-locking ... artfully done, of course.

According to director Kevin Kerslake's (Nirvana, Green Day) treatment, the video intersperses footage of the Used performing in a "shadowy, mysterious place" with artfully shot scenes of couples making out, focusing on minute details like "the smear of lipstick around a mouth ... an eye wet with tears ... a strand of saliva caught between lips."

As the song crashes to its thunderous crescendo, the room that the Used are performing in fills with "atomic-level lightning strikes" and "Nagasaki-white" light, symbolizing "the romantic abandon evidenced in the lyrics" (or, as Kerslake more succinctly put it, "It's like an assault from every direction. It's explosive, harrowing. F-----g mental").

"I Caught Fire" is the third video off the Used's gold In Love and Death (see "Tension, Tragedy Spawned The Used's In Love And Death"), and filming is set to commence in Los Angeles on June 29. The band plans to take off much of the following month and will resurface at San Diego's Street Scene Festival — alongside Snoop Dogg, Pixies and 311 — on July 30.

Starting on August 13, they'll hit the road once again, taking influential Long Island hardcore act Glassjaw and "celebcore" band 30 Seconds to Mars out with them. No word on whether or not McCracken, Glassjaw's Daryl Palumbo and 30 Seconds' Jared Leto will engage in some serious three-way man-kissing sessions, but you never know.
