Get ready to watch the stars find even bigger boats this year: The MTV Video Music Awards are returning to Miami.
The 2005 VMAs will take place on Sunday, August 28 at the beach town's American Airlines Arena, the channel announced Tuesday (April 5).
Last year's ceremony, which marked the first time the show had been broadcast from a city other than New York or Los Angeles, featured big wins for Outkast and Jay-Z, who walked away with four Moonmen each. It was also the most-watched telecast on cable in 2004 for those between the ages of 12 and 34.
"I am ecstatic that MTV is returning to Miami for 2005," Miami Mayor Manny Diaz said. "Last year's VMAs raised our summer heat to a new level of intensity, proving that the world's hottest city and entertainment's steamiest awards show are a perfect match. As soon as the first VIP boat arrived at the American Airlines Arena last year, we knew we wanted them back."
Carlos Alvarez, mayor of Miami-Dade county, gave his approval as well, noting that the event is important to the region, since it promotes their beaches, hotels, restaurants, shopping, attractions, sports, and recreation to a worldwide audience, and "brings together artists and celebrities from around the globe."
Hosts, performers, nominees, and presenters will be announced in the coming months.
