Jessica Simpson joined the burgeoning ranks of ailing pop singers when she canceled a performance Tuesday due to a kidney infection.
The pop star was scheduled to perform before a nearly sold-out audience at Providence, Rhode Island's Dunkin Donuts Civic Center at 7:30 p.m., but reportedly canceled the show Tuesday afternoon. Simpson has been under a doctor's care to treat the infection, according to The Associated Press.
Fans planning to attend the canceled show were reportedly told to keep their tickets, as concert organizers hope to reschedule it in the near future.
Simpson plans to resume her tour on Wednesday at Manchester, New Hampshire's Verizon Wireless Arena.
The singer's summer tour, promoting her most recent release, In This Skin, is scheduled to run through August 1, ending at the Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles, California.
This news comes in the wake of two high-profile summer-tour cancellations by female pop singers: Last week, Britney Spears canceled her tour due to a knee injury (see "Britney Cancels Tour"), and in April, Christina Aguilera called off her tour with Chingy, citing strained vocal cords (see "Christina Calls Off Tour With Chingy Due To Vocal Strain").
