Comedian to star in next film from director of 'Eternal Sunshine.'

Jack Black, who'll follow up the upcoming animated "Shark Tale" with Peter Jackson's "King Kong" remake, is continuing to broaden his résumé. The comedian, who has a cameo in Will Ferrell's "Anchorman," has signed on for an adaptation the 1984 sci-fi novel "Master of Space and Time." Michel Gondry, coming off "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," is directing. ...

Development on the "Spy Hunter" movie, which will star the Rock as a former pilot recruited to an elite government agency, is rolling right along with the addition of director John Woo and writer Zak Penn. Woo is best known for "Face/Off" and "Mission: Impossible II," while Penn has the upcoming "Elektra" as well as "X2" and "Behind Enemy Lines" to his credit. ... Multitasking Matt Damon, who has "The Brothers Grimm" (with Heath Ledger), "The Bourne Supremacy" and "Ocean's 12" in the works, has signed on for another big-budget movie, the geopolitical thriller "Syriana." The movie, based on the memoirs of CIA agent Robert Baer, centers on an oil executive whose business is interrupted by a family tragedy. Amanda Peet will play his wife, while George Clooney, who is producing along with Steven Soderbergh, is considering a role. "Traffic" screenwriter Stephen Gaghan is directing from his own adaptation. ...

Harrison Ford is filling up his schedule now that he's decided to delay the fourth "Indiana Jones" movie until he, director Steven Spielberg and writer George Lucas agree on a script. Ford will shoot the bank-heist film "The Wrong Element" this fall, followed by the space thriller "Godspeed." James Cameron is producing the latter, about a crisis on an international space station. ... Lance Bass has finally found a follow-up to "On the Line" with "Lovewrecked," which he will produce when shooting starts next month. Amanda Bynes will play a love-struck fan stranded on a desert island with a rock star whom she idolizes — and lies to; in reality their resort is just walking distance away. ... Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley, who were married for less than four months, have finalized their divorce, nearly 18 months after separating. Neither will pay financial support to the other. ...

The "Sex and the City" movie has been put on hold after Kim Cattrall told writer and director Michael Patrick King she wanted to move ahead with her career. "She would have loved to have done the movie and made a deal to do the movie, but [she] waited as long as possible with no script or start date and felt she had to take other offers that were presented to her after the hold period had passed," a spokesperson for the actress told Variety. "Kim would of course love to do the film and would be happy to revisit the project in the future." ... A double-disc "Hellboy" DVD is set for a July 27 release. Bonus features will focus on director Guillermo del Toro's loyalty to "Hellboy" creator Mike Mignola. ... Larry Clark, director of the gritty youth movies "Kids" and "Bully," will shoot his next film this summer. "Wassup Rockers" is about a group of largely Hispanic teenagers in South Central Los Angeles who ride skateboards and listen to punk instead of conforming to the hip-hop culture of their neighborhood. The kids avoid harassment by taking buses to Beverly Hills, where they skate and meet rich girls, inevitably causing trouble with parents and boyfriends. ....
