Jonathan Davis Juggles Romantic Comedy With Porno Movies

Korn singer/XXX director has part in upcoming 'Seeing Other People.'

TARZANA, California — It's official: Jonathan Davis is an actor.

"I got it," the singer bragged during a break from a recent recording session. "I got my SAG card. It's pretty cool."

Davis, who made a cameo as a ticket scalper in 2002's "Queen of the Damned" (which he also scored), has joined the Screen Actors Guild with his second movie, "Seeing Other People."

Opening in select cities Friday (May 7), the romantic (or not) comedy stars Jay Mohr and Julianne Nicholson ("Ally McBeal") as an engaged couple who decide to sleep around until their wedding. Davis is the boyfriend of one of Mohr's flings, played by Jill Ritchie, Kid Rock's sister.

"I play this crack dealer named Ricky, and he's pissed off that his chick's with this other guy," he said. "She hasn't called him, and she only comes around when she wants to get high. It's a funny scene."

Davis won the role after a former tour manager suggested him to the casting agent and the Korn singer auditioned for writer/director Wallace Wolodarsky, whose credits include "Sorority Boys" and episodes of "The Simpsons."

"I thought it would just be so not me to do a romantic comedy," Davis recalled. "So I'm all, 'Yeah, I'll do it ... I'll try acting.' I read for the part — I guess that's what they call it — and [Wolodarsky was] all, 'I think this will work.' "

Davis' role in the movie, which also stars Andy Richter, Josh Charles ("Dead Poets Society") and Lauren Graham ("Gilmore Girls"), is small, but he took it seriously, even working with an acting coach.

"I want to do everything professionally," he said. "I don't want to come out looking like a punk. And I might do it some more, I don't know. ... It's cool just getting away from music a little bit, 'cause I'm always so into music."

The singer, who will spend the summer touring with Linkin Park and Snoop Dogg (see "Dates For Linkin Park's Projekt Revolution Announced; Used Join Trek"), has yet to line up another role, but he's getting ready to step behind the camera. Davis and his porn-star wife, Deven, have signed a deal with Vivid Video to direct a line of adult movies.

"That's another fun little thing I can get my hands into," Davis said. "I always love dealing with the adult entertainment industry, and if I can bring something ... innovative and new to the porn industry that's my take on it, that'll be cool."

As co-director, Davis said he'll make both the music and the look of the shots different than standard adult-movie fare. "I'm not gonna go into the whole details of it, but I think it'll be interesting," he said. "I mean, Snoop's done one and Lil Jon's done one, why can't I?"

Aside from movies, Davis is also using what little free time he has to develop video games. One game, "Pop Scars" (see "Thanks To Jonathan Davis, Marilyn Manson Can Kick Fred Durst's Ass"), is finished, the singer is just looking for a distributor. He's also started a second game.

"It's in the vein of a sick, dark, twisted carnival kind of thing," Davis said. "I'm definitely keeping my hands in the gaming 'cause that's what I do all the time when I'm not doing music or shooting, so I love it."
