Luke Wilson will play a man who, after being selected for a top-secret hibernation program, goes to sleep and wakes up 1,000 years in the future in "3001." "Beavis and Butt-head" creator Mike Judge co-wrote the script and will produce the movie, which finds civilization so dumbed down that Wilson's character is considered a genius. Shooting is scheduled to start in mid-April. ... Zooey Deschanel ("Elf") and Martin Freeman ("The Office") are the latest additions to the cast of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," based on the novel by Douglas Adams. Mos Def will play Ford Prefect, an alien who disguises himself as an actor for intergalactic journey. ...

Former "Once and Again" star Evan Rachel Wood's career is sizzling after her Golden Globe nomination for "Thirteen." In March she'll shoot the indie drama "Down in the Valley" with Edward Norton and director David Jacobson ("Dahmer"), about the relationship between a rebellious young woman and a delusional man who believes he's a cowboy. Wood has also been cast in "American Pastoral" alongside "A Beautiful Mind" co-stars and real-life couple Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany. She will play a revolutionary terrorist ruining her parents' perfect life in the film, directed by Phillip Noyce ("Patriot Games"). ...

Russell Crowe will undergo arthroscopic repair surgery after dislocating his shoulder during training for "Cinderella Man," about Depression-era boxer and folk hero Jim Braddock. The surgery, followed by physical therapy, will delay the start of filming for a month, from March to April. Ron Howard ("A Beautiful Mind") is directing the biopic, which Renée Zellweger is co-starring in. Crowe injured the same shoulder in 2000 while training for the upcoming Jodie Foster-directed "Flora Plum," a role he eventually had to drop. ... Sofia Coppola; her father, Francis Ford Coppola; Scarlett Johansson; Quentin Tarantino; Marisa Tomei; and Gary Busey were among the celebrities on hand at the "Lost in Translation" DVD release party Tuesday in Los Angeles. Shondrella Avery, from the UPN's "One on One," is preparing to break out on the big screen after her first starring film, "Napoleon Dynamite," was picked up at Sundance and scheduled for a spring theatrical release. "It's a coming-of-age story about a nerd who's in high school in this little town of Preston, Idaho," she explained of the movie, which also stars Haylie Duff. "And he actually falls in love with me online and I'm from Detroit, my name is LaFawnduh, and I come down to Preston, Idaho, to kind of shake some stuff up. All the while, his nerdy brother, who's also in high school, kind of like redeems himself by learning how to dance. It's a very cute, charming movie. Jamie Foxx has been fined $1,500 and placed on two years' probation after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge stemming from an altercation with security guards at a New Orleans casino in April.
