Kid Rock will release a cover of the Bad Company classic “Feel Like Makin’ Love” as the first single from his upcoming self-titled album, due November 11. The song is expected to surface at radio next week. …

Ja Rule, Nelly and Murphy Lee, Fabolous, Wyclef, Trina, Cam’ron and the Diplomats, Lil Jon and the East Side Boyz and the Youngbloodz will perform at the Source Awards. The event will tape October 13 in Miami and air November 11 on BET. … Big Daddy Kane is gearing up to make a return to acting, according to his manager. The co-star of “Posse” is scheduled to tape an episode of Eve‘s self-titled TV series in the next few weeks. …

Pop trio Hanson will release their third studio album, Underneath, through their newly formed label, 3CG, in early 2004. The brothers have also extended their acoustic tour through November 5 at Carnegie Hall in New York. … Thursday, Thrice and the Ataris are just a few of the many punk, emo and screamo acts unplugging for the Punk Goes Acoustic LP, which comes out October 21. Some of the other artists contributing tracks are Sugarcult, Finch, Taking Back Sunday and From Autumn to Ashes. …

Memphis Bleek has a set a December 16 release date for his third album, M.A.D.E. Nate Dogg is featured on the first single, “You Need Me in Your Life,” while Jay-Z and Beanie Sigel guest on “Hypnotic.” Trick Daddy and Donell Jones also make appearances, along with producers Just Blaze and Kanye West. … West, meanwhile, left the crowd screaming Wednesday night at New York’s S.O.B.’s club. Among those helping the rapping producer on the mic were Common, Talib Kweli and Twista. …

Jack Johnson has put together a soundtrack to the DVD re-release of his surfing film “Thicker Than Water.” The album includes two new Johnson tunes, including the G. Love collaboration “Rainbow,” plus a song from fellow surfer Todd Hannigan. Both the album and DVD are due November 25. … A week earlier, on November 18, Johnson’s pal Ben Harper is releasing a DVD of his own, “Live at the Hollywood Bowl,” shot in August by surfers-turned-video-directors the Malloys. A four-song EP of songs from the same show, including Harper’s cover of Marvin Gaye‘s “Sexual Healing,” will be released the same day. …

Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx is out to thrash skate mag Thrasher and the Vans shoe company in court for allegedly printing an image of him in an ad without his permission. Last year Sixx presented pro skater Tony Trujillo with the Skateboarder of the Year award at the magazine’s Christmas party, pictures were taken, and the next thing Sixx knows, he’s shown hawking kicks. Sixx filed the suit on Tuesday. …Powerman 5000 were forced to cut short their tour with Mudvayne by two weeks, citing “label reasons beyond our control” as the reason. But singer Spider One reassured fans on PM5K’s Web site that the band isn’t breaking up and hasn’t been dropped from DreamWorks. …

Helmet‘s Unsung will remain that way until next year. The New York band’s retrospective set, Unsung: The Very Best of Helmet, has been bumped to a January 27 release date. … The new Hoobastank album, The Reason, will come out December 9. The first single, the blaring “Out of Control,” hits radio October 13. A video for the song was shot Tuesday with director Wayne Isham. Other tracks on the LP, produced by Howard Benson, include “Same Direction,” “Just One” and the ballad “The Reason.” …

Singer Erykah Badu has joined the cast of “House of D,” the first feature film written and directed by actor David Duchovny (“X-Files”). The movie is about a man coming to terms with his friendships, past and present. Previously, Badu appeared in “The Cider House Rules.” …

Two weeks after L.A. County sheriff’s detectives determined that the death of B-movie actress Lana Clarkson was indeed a murder, the prime suspect in the shooting, legendary record producer Phil Spector, had his $1 million bail extended until November 3. The L.A. district attorney’s office is still deciding whether there is enough evidence to charge Spector with the murder, which occurred in February. … Metal legend Ronnie James Dio recently had his thumb severed in a bizarre gardening accident at his home. The quick-thinking, temporarily nine-fingered singer scooped up the digit and rushed off to a hospital, where doctors were able to reattach it. He’s expected to fully recover. …

Sheryl Crow, Mya and Blondie‘s Debbie Harry and Chris Stein will perform at the second annual Vanity Fair “In Concert” on Monday at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York. Actress Chloë Sevigny will host the event, the proceeds from which will to go to the Step Up Women’s Network, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening community resources for women and girls. … Kiss fire breather Gene Simmons has contributed his voice to an upcoming episode of “King of the Hill,” which will be called “Reborn to be Wild,” according to Chart Attack. The show, which will also feature Sum 41 as a group of Christian punks, will air November 9. …

Ex-Skid Row crooner Sebastian Bach has signed on to play a recurring role on “Gilmore Girls.” Bach will play a character named Gil, and in a post on his Web site, he describes his part as “kind of like the Fonz [from “Happy Days”].” The first episode to feature Bach was recently shot in Hollywood, and features guest star Sally Struthers. Bach is currently rehearsing for a U.S. tour with his new band, Bach Tight 5. … Alicia Keys hosted a talent showcase for her manager Jeff Robinson‘s MBK Entertainment at Birdland in New York on Tuesday night. Newcomer singers under Robinson’s wing including Shawn Kane, Focus, Star 69, Jessica Wilson and Lola performed. …

The John Lennon DVD “Lennon Legend” will come out November 18. Assembled by his widow, Yoko Ono, the package includes 20 tracks, 15 new videos, new animations of Lennon’s drawings and a rare photo gallery. … Screamo outfit A Static Lullaby have replaced drummer Brett Dinovo with his drum tech Ben Newsham. The band recently signed with Columbia Records, which will re-release their album …And Don’t Forget to Breathe in January. The disc will include bonus tracks recorded with producer Steve Evetts (Sepultura, Glassjaw). A Static Lullaby will begin a tour October 8 in Orangevale, California. Dates run through November 21. …
