HOLLYWOOD — Chris Carrabba showed he can write happy songs on "Hands Down," but now he's going back to his bread and butter.
The Dashboard Confessional singer said last week the second single from A Mark, a Mission, a Brand, a Scar will most likely be "Rapid Hope Loss," a heavier tune about choosing not to give an ex a second chance.
"Thanks for waiting this long to show yourself/ Because now that I can see you/ I don't think you're worth a second glance," Carrabba sings on the track, before repeating, "I guess that all you got is all you're gonna get."
"It was one of the ones we wrote early on in the record, so we fell in love with it early," the singer said.
"It's a really fun live song," drummer Mike Marsh added. "There's a lot of energy in it, so I think it would be a cool single."
There are no plans yet for a video, but that could come in a few weeks when Dashboard Confessional wrap up a fall tour with Vendetta Red and Brand New (see "Dashboard Confessional Touring Again — Just In Time"). And speaking of touring, when the band returns to the road later in the year, there's a possibility one or more of the shows will be recorded.
"We'd like to do a proper live album, the way we really do our shows," Carrabba said. "That Unplugged is awesome, but it's not really what we do."
Carrabba added that he's shocked how fast his fans, who are famous for singing along, have learned his new material. "You can't tell what's new and what's old by looking at the audience," he said. "There's no division. It's like the same passion."
