Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dogg To Take Road Trip Across North America

Snoop Dogg, emo-punks Mars Volta will open for the band.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are hitting the road this summer. Fronting an eclectic bill that boasts opening acts that include rapper Snoop Dogg, emo-punks the Mars Volta and rockers Queens of the Stone Age, the Peppers will launch a 26-date North American tour in St. Paul, Minnesota on May 1.

From May 1 through 19, the openers will be the Mars Volta and Queens of the Stone Age; from June 2 through 21, the openers will be the Mars Volta and Snoop Dogg.

The tour will be the Chili Peppers’ first North American headlining showcase since the release of July’s By the Way, which the punk posse has been busy supporting in Europe. With plans to rock out arenas and amphitheatres throughout the U.S. and Canada, the group will wrap the tour in Salt Lake City on June 21.

In August the Peppers will head back to Europe to headline several major events, including the V2003 festival in England. British rock group Coldplay are scheduled to headline as well.

According to the band’s Web site, more North American dates will be added to the itinerary shortly. Tickets for several shows will go on sale to the public beginning Friday. Venues for many markets have yet to be announced.
