Eve has taken the next step in her eve-olution into a Hollywood player, signing on to star in a sitcom for UPN.
The rapper, who garnered positive reviews for her supporting roles in "Barbershop" and "XXX," will play a New York fashion designer in a multiethnic comedy she conceptualized and will produce.
Eve's manager, Troy Carter, will executive produce the as-yet-untitled sitcom with music and TV producer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Tracey Edmonds and the show's writer, Bentley Evans ("The Jamie Foxx Show," "Martin").
Eve signed a development deal with UPN, the network behind Brandy's "Moesha," last fall after co-hosting and performing "Gangsta Lovin'" at its "Monday Night Premiere Party," a kickoff celebration for several of the channel's season premieres.
The Ruff Ryder, who recently played a rookie paramedic on an episode of NBC's "Third Watch," was nominated for an Image Award for her portrayal of a down-in-the-dumps hairstylist in "Barbershop" (see "Eve Says 'Barbershop' Role Was Good For Her Booty").
While Eve's acting career is booming, it's not slowing her music down. Eve-olution's second single, "Satisfaction," is climbing the charts, and she has collaborations due with Nate Dogg and Missy Elliott (see "Snoop, Eve, Xzibit To Appear On Next Nate Dogg LP" and "Missy Elliott Promises Joint Album With Eve, Aaliyah Tribute LP").
Eve will launch a tour with Ja Rule beginning January 29 and running through early March.
