Mixtape Mondays: Diplomats Vol. 3

Cam'ron wastes no time tearing into Queensbridge's most well-known rhyme ambassador, Nas, and his protégé Nashawn.

  • Name: The Diplomats

  • Hometown: Harlem, USA

  • Joints to check for: “We Built This City,” “What’s Really Good,” (featuring DMX), “It’s More Than Music”

  • The 411: 50 Cent isn’t the only MC who knows how to keep his name in the streets via the mixtape circuit. Cam’ron and the Diplomats have returned with their third ’hood soundtrack, addressing the question, what’s really good with the Dip Set’s gripes with Nas and the Bravehearts? The answer: nothing — it seems to be all bad. Cam wastes no time tearing into Queensbridge’s most well-known rhyme ambassador, Nas, and his protégé Nashawn.

“Nay Nay,” as Killa Cam brazenly calls him, recently lashed out at the Roc-A-Fella capo in song on a DJ Kay Slay mixtape. Among other things, Nashawn attributed Cam’s drastic weight loss to the AIDS virus. This was all preceded, of course, by Nas going on New York radio this summer and saying that Cam’s current LP, the platinum Come Home With Me, was wack. The Diplomats wasted no time firing back, dropping Vol. 2 of their mixtape trilogy, which included a response from Cam’ron rhyming over Nas’ beat to “Hate Me Now.”

Will the hate between the two factions continue? Who knows. While Cam says that this is going to be the last Diplomats mixtape, the crew does have its proper debut album, Diplomatic Immunity, slated to drop early next year. For now, you can put in Vol. 3 and get a sampling of a few album cuts as well as a freestyle from incarcerated Dip Set affiliate Hell Rell.
