Shakira Announces Whenever, Wherever Of World Tour

Singer's Tour of the Mongoose kicks off November 8 in San Diego.

Shakira will cap off her remarkable breakthrough year with an ambitious 30-country, 50-city arena tour.

The Latin star’s Tour of the Mongoose will kick off with 14 North American dates, beginning November 8 in San Diego, followed by a European stint in mid-December, she announced Wednesday.

Shakira will return to the States to hit 16 more cities in January and February. Those dates have not yet been announced.

Among the shows already scheduled are stops at the Staples Center in Los Angeles (November 13), Madison Square Garden in New York (November 20) and the American Airlines Arena in Miami (December 2).

Shakira has been a worldwide star since the success of her 1998 Grammy-winning Spanish language album, Donde Estan Los Landrones?, which she co-produced with Emilio Estefan (Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin).

It wasn’t until her first English-language album, Laundry Service, released a year ago, that she broke in America. That release yielded the successful singles “Objection (Tango),” “Whenever, Wherever” and “Underneath Your Clothes” and has sold more than 9 million copies worldwide.

Tickets for the first leg of the Tour of the Mongoose go on sale October 5, although fans can get advance tickets for some dates now by joining the official Shakira fan club or at Clear Channel’s CC.com on October 1 at 10 a.m.

Before hitting the road, Shakira, who garnered rave reviews for her performance at last month’s MTV Video Music Awards, will perform at the inaugural MTV Video Music Awards Latin America ceremony on October 24.
