Beth Orton Tours, Breaks Day With Ryan Adams, Chemical Brothers

Lanky singer/songwriter's outing kicks off May 20.

After lending her rich voice to all four Chemical Brothers studio albums, Beth Orton is finally getting her favors returned. Daybreaker, the techno-folkie's third full-length album, due July 30, features beats from Brothers Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons on the title track.

Other guests on the record include alt-country alchemist Ryan Adams harmonizing on "Concrete Sky" and composing on "OK," veteran Emmylou Harris contributing vocals to the ballad "God Song," and ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr playing on several tracks.

"Paris Train," "Ted's Waltz," "Mt. Washington," "Anywhere," "Carmella" and "Thinking About Tomorrow" round out the album, which Orton's spokesperson described as "cinematic and grand, yet still deeply personal."

Everything But the Girl mastermind Ben Watt and Andy Bradfield (Björk, Deep Dish) mixed Daybreaker, the follow-up to 1999's Central Reservation (see "Beth Orton Joined In Studio By Ben Harper, Dr. John").

Orton will perform material from the forthcoming album on a 17-date North American tour that kicks off May 20 in Vancouver.

The British singer/songwriter launched her career with Spill, a one-off project with William Orbit, with whom she also collaborated with on his subsequent solo album. She later became the unofficial Chemical Sister, most recently contributing to "The State We're In" from Come With Us (see "Chemical Brothers Spent Months Refining Formula For Come With Us"). She also sang with Beck (see "Beck Discusses Atmospheric Duet With Beth Orton").

Orton released her debut album, Trailer Park, in 1996.
