Shakira To Release (Mostly) English Laundry Service

MTV and MTV2 will air the Colombian singer's 'Unplugged' special in November.

Latin sensation Shakira will find out soon if her music can hold up "Whenever Wherever" and in whatever language.

The Colombian singer will release Laundry Service, her first album mostly in English, on November 13.

Only four of the record's 13 songs are in Shakira's native Spanish, according to Epic Records. The singer wrote and produced all the tracks under the guidance of executive producer Emilio Estefan (Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan).

"Whenever Wherever," the first single from Laundry Service, was released earlier this month. Francis Lawrence (Jennifer Lopez, Destiny's Child) directed the video, which features Shakira doing her own diving stunts.

Shakira has already sold more than 8 million albums worldwide, according to Epic, and she is expected to gain an even larger fan base when MTV and MTV2 air her "Unplugged" special next month. It will mark the first time the channels air a show entirely in Spanish.

The show was taped for MTV Latin America last year and the album from the show won a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album.

Laundry Service, the follow-up to 2000's MTV Unplugged, is Shakira's fourth album. She debuted in 1996 with Pies Descalzos and followed two years later with Dónde Están los Ladrones?, which went platinum in the United States.

The new record includes "Suerte," a #1 single in Spain, along with "Objection (Tango)," "Poem to a Horse" and "Underneath Your Clothes."

Shakira will promote Laundry Service with several television performances, including "TRL" on November 9, "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" on November 14, "Today" and "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" on November l5 and "Mad TV" on November l7.

The singer already appears to have some important U.S. fans. Michael Jackson recruited her for his upcoming benefit single, "What More Can I Give" (see "'NSYNC Join Jackson's Charity Single; Mariah, Celine Sing In Spanish"), and Britney Spears said earlier this week she would like to collaborate with her.

"She has an amazing voice and I met her a few weeks ago and she's such an interesting person," Spears said of Shakira.
