Throat Injury Sidelines Deftones' Chino Moreno

Frontman is gonna be quiet and drive (to the doctor every day).

Years of relentless screaming have caught up to Deftones singer Chino Moreno, who developed a throat injury over the weekend that will force his band to miss at least four shows.

Moreno was diagnosed Wednesday (July 18) with an inflammation on his right vocal cord and partial paralysis of the left vocal cord by Beverly Hills throat specialist Dr. Joseph H. Sugarman, according to the band's publicist.

Deftones pulled out of Sunday night's hometown gig in Sacramento, California, so Moreno could fly to Los Angeles to meet with the doctor. The band missed Tuesday's show just outside San Francisco and will miss Wednesday's in Irvine and Friday's in San Diego.

Moreno is resting his throat, taking medication and returning to Sugarman for daily evaluations, his publicist said. Deftones hope to return to their tour with fellow metal heavyweights Godsmack on Saturday in Phoenix (see "Godsmack, Deftones Kicking Off Summer Tour In July").

Meanwhile, "Godsmack, Puddle of Mudd, CKY and From Zero are still going to rock Irvine and San Diego, so don't miss them," Deftones drummer Abe Cunningham said in a statement.
