Trace Adkins was arrested Thursday night by a police officer in Nolensville, Tennessee, south of Nashville. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and for refusing to take a breath test (a violation of the state's implied-consent law). Adkins was booked by the Williamson County Sheriff's Department and posted a $1,000 bond. He will appear in court July 23. Adkins is scheduled to meet with members of the press Monday in Nashville to discuss his latest single, "I'm Tryin'." His next album, Chrome, has an October 23 release date. An Adkins spokesperson said the singer would soon issue a statement. …

Jim Lauderdale will portray George Jones in the upcoming stage presentation of "Stand By Your Man: The Tammy Wynette Story." The production will open at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium on September 13 and run through October 28. Legendary guitarist Roy Nichols, who played for more than 20 years with Merle Haggard's backing band, the Strangers, died of a heart attack Tuesday (July 3) at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, California. He was 68. Helping define the Bakersfield sound with his Fender Telecaster, Nichols recorded hundreds of songs with Haggard and also played with Johnny Cash, Lefty Frizzell, the Maddox Brothers & Rose and Wynn Stewart, among others. In 1987 Nichols quit the road and retired from Haggard's band. The following year he was inducted into the Western Swing Society Hall of Fame in Sacramento. In 1996 Nichols suffered a stroke that put him in a wheelchair and cost him the use of his left hand. ...

The singer will mount her first holiday tour in late November and early December with the 15-piece Duke Ellington Orchestra, led by Ellington's grandson, Mercer. Womack said she'll also have her band, 911, with her on tour and will begin concerts with her hits. Then, the Ellington Orchestra will join them for traditional Christmas songs.
