Maxwell's Now Sound Recalls Debut LP

'Lifetime' to be first single from third album, due August 21.

Maxwell's new album is titled Now, and it's all about then.

The LP, due August 21, sees the R&B star returning to the smooth soul and erotic funk of his debut album, Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite, according to manager Chris Lighty.

Though "Get to Know Ya" was originally slated as Now's first single, the ballad "Lifetime" has taken its place. The song arrives at urban radio on July 10 and at other formats on July 24.

Now is Maxwell's first album since 1998's Embrya. A tour is planned around its release, with R&B newcomer Alicia Keys likely to open, Lighty said. Keys' Songs in A Minor is due June 26.
