When they're not rocking along with Ozzy Osbourne and his Black Sabbath bandmates on this summer's Ozzfest, Slipknot, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Disturbed and Mudvayne will hit a string of amphitheaters in a package tour of their own during the metalfest's off days, according to a Slipknot spokesperson.
The first date of the Big Day Off tour is June 10 in Ozark, Missouri, two days after Ozzfest kicks off June 8 in Chicago (see "Ozzfest: Complete Itinerary Announced"). Only a handful of dates for what organizers were originally calling Off-fest could be confirmed at press time, though several more are expected, the spokesperson said.
Not all the groups will perform on all Big Day Off dates because of prior commitments to radio shows, a source close to one of the bands said.
Slipknot fans shouldn't expect scaled-down shows during the Big Day Off tour their spokesperson said the masked metal band will be bringing its new and improved stage props, which include a high-tech light show and a ramp allowing percussionists Shawn Crahan and Chris Fehn to swap positions without interfering with the rest of the band's mayhem. Slipknot, who have finally decided that Iowa will be the title of their forthcoming second album, will also debut new masks.
