Robert Downey Jr. Sings With Sting On Latest Ally Disc

Actor, ex-Police frontman duet on 'Every Breath You Take.'

? ?_?king a successful crossover from movie screen to TV screen with his role on "Ally McBeal," Robert Downey Jr. is making a go at the music world too.

On Ally McBeal: For Once in My Life (Featuring Vonda Shepard), Downey makes his debut as a singer and songwriter.

Downey lends his voice to three of the album's 14 songs, including a duet with Sting on a remake of the 1983 Police hit "Every Breath You Take." He flexes his own songwriting skills on "Snakes," inspired by his 1997 film "Two Girls and a Guy," a label spokesperson said.

For Once in My Life is the fourth in a series of Ally-inspired albums for which pianist/singer Vonda Shepard provides the aural backdrop.

Famous bass voice Barry White, whose cameos have become an "Ally" fixture, has lent his song "You're the First, the Last, My Everything" to both the album and the show.

Shepard rounds out the disc with seven solo songs and two duets — one with Downey (Bob Seger's "Chances Are") and one with newcomer Anastacia, with whom she'll perform Gary Wright's "Love Is Alive" on the show's May 7 episode. Shepard takes on Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" among other solo outings.
