U2 Add More Dates To North American Tour

Most stops on 33-city trek have sold out.

With All That You Can't Leave Behind reviving their popularity, U2 are selling out arenas across North America and have added six dates to their 33-city Elevation Tour 2001.

Extra shows were added last week in Calgary, Alberta; Chicago; Washington, D.C.; New York; and East Rutherford, New Jersey. Two concerts were added in Anaheim, California. Aside from the Chicago date — which goes on sale Saturday — all are sellouts.

Additional shows were added in Toronto, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia and San Jose, California, soon after tickets for the original dates in those cities went on sale January 13. Those shows are also sold out.

All That You Can't Leave Behind, released in October, finds the band returning to its guitar-rock roots and has already sold more copies than 1997's techno-influenced Pop — 1.75 million to 1.45 million. A 1998 greatest-hits collection, The Best of 1980-1990, has moved more than 2.4 million copies.

Tickets are still available for shows in Charlotte, North Carolina; Tacoma, Washington; Portland, Oregon; Minneapolis; and Cleveland. Tickets for previously announced shows in Houston; Albany, New York; Buffalo, New York; Columbus, Ohio; Lexington, Kentucky; Pittsburgh; Indianapolis; and Milwaukee go on sale Saturday.

PJ Harvey is opening for U2 on the tour.
