Badu To Trigger Mama's Gun Tour Next Month

Outing, launching February 10 in Cleveland, will target mostly theatres on 21 North American dates, wrapping March 18 in Dallas.

Soul singer Erykah Badu will support her critically acclaimed third album, Mama's Gun, with a 21-date North American tour to kick off February 10 in Cleveland, according to her spokesperson.

Badu — whose single "Bag Lady" is nominated for Grammys for Best R&B Female Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song — will play mostly theaters on the outing, which includes a Valentine's Day performance at New York's Radio City Music Hall.

Since captivating moviegoers with her role in 1999's "The Cider House Rules," Badu has devoted most of her time to music. She contributed two tracks to Spike Lee's "Bamboozled" soundtrack — a cover of Chaka Khan's "Hollywood" and a duet with Common on "The Light" — over the summer and released her first studio album since 1997's triple-platinum breakthrough, Baduizm, in November.

Mama's Gun, which was partially recorded at Jimi Hendrix's legendary Electric Lady studio (just days after D'Angelo finished Voodoo there), debuted at #11 and now sits at #45 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

Badu (born Erica Wright) is a multiple Grammy winner whose stylish fusion of jazz, R&B, hip-hop and poetry has garnered her Lauryn Hill-like praise. The spiritual Dallas native has proven to be a multitalented artist, as she also directs most of her videos, including those for "Bag Lady" and the new "Didn't Cha Know."
