U2 Announce Tour Dates

Elevation Tour 2001, featuring opener PJ Harvey, kicks off March 24 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

In the wake of the critical and commercial success of All That You Can't Leave Behind, U2 will hit North American arenas this spring with the U2 Elevation Tour 2001, which kicks off March 24 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and will continue until June 21.

Tickets for the 33-city tour, which will include opening act PJ Harvey, will go on sale on Saturday, according to an announcement from the tour's promoter, SFX.

U2's last tour was 1997's highly theatrical PopMart outing, which found the band emerging from a giant lemon during its encores. The group has said it hopes to use less elaborate staging on this outing, which will be U2's first indoor tour since 1992.

"When we play, molecules in the room start vibrating at different speeds. ... I think it's going to be a really special thing for the four of us to be onstage at this time," lead singer Bono said recently. "Having been in the band for a while, I've never felt this kind of force, and I hope we can keep it like that until the summer, until we get to see everyone in March, April, May, if we're still playing like we are now."

The tour will use festival seating on the arenas' floors, with no assigned seats for fans in that area.

A European tour will follow in the summer.
