While there's been no official word from the couple, the BBC has reported that Madonna married director Guy Ritchie on Friday afternoon in Dornoch, Scotland.
Despite the hundreds of reporters camped out near Dornoch's Skibo Castle, the BBC is the only outlet that has reported that the couple had indeed married. "We understand that Madonna and Guy Ritchie have been married," BBC Scotland's Craig Anderson reported.
The couple issued an official proclamation in the Registrar's Office in Dornoch in early December stating that they intended to marry on December 22 (see "Madonna, Guy Ritchie To Wed In Scotland"). At the time, Madonna's publicist offered no information or comment on the news, a policy adhered to in the weeks that followed.
CNN estimates that close to 1,000 reporters descended on Skibo Castle to cover the event, but noted that hours after the wedding was believed to have taken place, it was still unclear as to whether or not the couple had exchanged vows. The news outlet did report that a string of high-profile guests (including Sting, Gwyneth Paltrow and Stella McCartney) joined the couple at Skibo Castle on Friday afternoon.
Madonna and Ritchie gave birth to their first child, son Rocco, in August (see "Madonna's A Mom, Again"). The child was the second for Madonna, who gave birth to daughter Lourdes in 1996.
