Guitarist Steve Vai Creates Record Company

Steve Vai, the Grammy award winning guitarist known for his work with David Lee Roth and Frank Zappa, among others, has launched his own record label and entertainment company.

Vai, along with Ray Scherr (former owner of the Guitar Center chain), announced the creation of Favored Nations Entertainment, which includes Favored Nations Records, Favored Nations Visuals (which will release music videos), and ProfoundMusic.com, which will feature content for rock fans.

According to guitar.com, the first release from Favored Nations Records will be an album by guitarist Frank Gambale, who has worked with Chick Corea's Elektric Band.

Future titles include releases by guitarists Steve Lukather and Larry Carlton, and drummer Gregg Bissonette (former drummer for Vai, David Lee Roth, and Joe Satriani).

Steve Vai has been nominated for a 2000 Grammy Award in the category of Best Rock Instrumental Performance for the track "Windows To The Soul" off his most recent

album, "The Ultra Zone."
