U2 Cancels Show After Storm Damages Set

May 28 [7:55 EDT] -- A severe storm with high winds damaged part of U2's stage set-up, and has sidelined the band's PopMart tour for a few days.

A storm, which reportedly produced a tornado funnel cloud at one point, hit during the band's performance in Washington, D.C. over weekend. The storm did significant damage to the band's 170 foot-wide aluminum-strip video screen, which a band spokesman calls integral to the show.

The screen needs three days of indoor repair, and U2 has been forced to cancel its scheduled show in Raleigh, North Carolina on Thursday.

The band says it will try to reschedule Raleigh for this fall, but for now refunds will be available through Ticketmaster on Thursday.

The PopMart tour is scheduled to play the first of three shows at Giants Stadium in the New Jersey Meadowlands on Saturday.
