2 Live Crew’s Campbell Arrested

Luther Campbell has been charged with aggravated battery after he allegedly attacked a man at a nightclub in Miami Beach on early Monday.

The rapper apparently became upset when a man, Mathieu Fabrice, blocked his view during a show at a local club. Campbell then got into a verbal argument with Fabrice that ended with the rapper striking Fabrice in the face with a whiskey bottle, according to the Associated Press.

Campbell was released from Miami-Dade County Jail on Tuesday morning after being formally charged in the incident.

The rapper and former music promoter is best known for helping found the controversial group, 2 Live Crew, whose profanity-laced lyrics on such records as 1989′s “As Nasty As They Wanna Be” and 1990′s “Banned in the USA,” helped spurn a national debate about censorship.

Campbell has also issued several solo albums in his own right, the most recent of which, “Changing the Game,” was released in 1997.
