Travis To Tour While Waiting On Godrich

Travis is scheduled to wrap up its opening spot on Oasis' North American tour on May 5, after which the Glaswegian group will head out on the road for its own two-week headlining run of the U.S.

The band is currently drawing critical raves here for its newest album, "The Man Who," which was just issued in the States after dominating the British charts for much of 1999.

In September, Travis plans to start work on its third record in Los Angeles with producer Nigel Godrich, who co-produced "The Man Who." Frontman Fran Healy recently explained to MTV News why the band was waiting to work with Godrich and why it also wanted to record in L.A. rather than France or the U.K., where "The Man Who" was cut.

"We're doing the next album with Nigel," Healy said. "We'd planned on going in [the studio] in July, and then it was August, but now it's September because he's doing the Radiohead

[record] and he's also doing Divine Comedy, as well. So we're just going to hang out and tour, basically, until then. [RealAudio]

"The main reason why we're going to L.A. is because it's a fantastic studio, it's one of Nigel's favorite studios and because it's sunny. On 'The Man Who,' predominantly, all of the songs on that album were written in the spring, autumn, and winter. There were no summer-written songs there.

"I think the songs that you write in the summer usually have a sunny quality to them," Healy continued. "So therefore I reckon if you're going to record them, you're going to have to record them in the same scenario as they were written. But basically, just because it's sunny.

"It's

more of a sunny record, this next one. It's all written now. We just need to go in and knock it out." [RealAudio]

The current American single from "The Man Who" is the track "Why Does It Always Rain On Me?" and Travis plans to issue a new song, "Coming Around," as a single in the U.K. in June.
