Tonic Preps New Album As "American Pie" Single Gains Steam

Buoyed by its current hit "You Wanted More," Tonic is currently holed up in New Orleans' Kingsway Studios working on a new album.

The band recently hooked up with Universal Records and hopes to have the follow-up to 1997's "Lemon Parade" in stores this fall.

In the meantime, the band is enjoying the success of "You Wanted More," [RealVideo] the track the band kicked in for the soundtrack to "American Pie." While extensive radio play has its benefits, the band thought the video shoot for the song would bring an added bonus. The clip features the bandmembers playing employees at a high school, and each shares a passionate kiss with an attractive girl... an idea that's apparently better on paper than in practice.

"It's totally unromantic, totally not like anything cool, except that you're kissing somebody," guitarist Jeff Russo told the MTV

Radio Network.

"It's like two lips pushing together with a camera three inches from your face." [RealAudio]

All that hard work is paying off, however, as "You Wanted More" is doing well on alternative radio, and "American Pie" is number one at the box office.
