TapRoot Finishing Up Debut As Tour Looms

Michigan buzz band TapRoot is currently putting the finishing touches on its major label debut and will soon hit the road to personally introduce its music to the masses.

The hard driving Ann Arbor outfit (profiled in our "You Hear It First" segment earlier this year) is currently mastering its debut effort, "Gift," and hopes to have the album in stores on June 27. When the Ulrich Wild-produced CD arrives, fans will find road-tested TapRoot songs such as "Again And Again," "Smile," [RealAudio] and "Now" as well as newly penned tracks.

The band's emotional sound has drawn favorable comparisons to The Deftones, and TapRoot drummed up interest from Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst and Puff Daddy during its unsigned days. The band eventually landed on the new Atlantic Records' imprint Velvet Hammer Music, which will release "Gift" this summer.

The band hopes to pump up the impending

with a supporting slot on the road with Papa Roach before spending the summer on the second stage of this year's Ozzfest outing.

"[Guitarist] Mike [DeWolf] and I both have been wanting this a long time," TapRoot frontman Steve Richards told MTV News as the band worked on its debut earlier this year. "I've wanted to do this since I was three, and we both kind of shaped our lives around the dream. We both kind of passed the whole school and college idea just to do this.

"I don't think we were ever unconfident with it working out," he continued. "It's more like a relief that it's finally happening. More so than, 'Whoah hoo,' it's just like, 'Finally.' We've been wanting to do it, and we're gonna do it."
