Scott Weiland is now a solo artist. As we reported previously (see MTV News Gallery "Great Expectations: The Soundtrack" 1/6/98), the singer has a song on the soundtrack for "Great Expectations," the present day film adaptation of the classic novel starring Gwenyth Paltrow and Ethan Hawke.
At the premiere for the film in Hollywood on Tuesday night, which attracted such stars as Helen Hunt, Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, and Neve Campbell, Scott Weiland took a few moments to discuss why his contribution, "Lady Your Roof Brings Me Down," was appropriate for the film.
"Being Dickens, and turn of the century vaudeville, Tin Pan Alley, that whole thing, it seemed to lend itself really well and I basically wrote some lyrics about a situation everybody has been in before, being obsessed with someone... [1MB Quicktime] being willing to follow them to all ends of the earth and unrequited love..."
Weiland's solo album is due out March 17.
