Britney Spears To Rule Over Mardi Gras

Louisiana born and bred teen star Britney Spears will reportedly make a triumphant return home next year as grand marshal of New Orleans' Endymion Mardi Gras parade.

The Associated Press reports that Spears will serve as celebrity grand marshal for the parade, which consistently rates as one of the biggest and gaudiest events in an annual ritual that celebrates all things big and gaudy.

Spears now follows in the footsteps of celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse who served as the Endymion parade's grand marshal earlier this year. The teen pop hitmaker will reportedly be joined by Hall and Oates, the Neville Brothers, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and The Naked Martinis (as well as about 5,000 others) in the parade next March.

The 18-year-old Spears hails from Kentwood, Louisiana, which lies some 80 miles outside of New Orleans.
