Sevendust Finds "Home" On The Road As Album Arrives

After whetting fans' appetites with its powerhouse performance at Woodstock '99 and its current U.S. tour, Sevendust finally hits stores this week with "Home."

The album draws its title not from the band's old stomping grounds of Atlanta, but rather from the road, which Sevendust called home for 21 straight months while drumming up support for its self-titled debut album.

The band has now returned to its rolling home, and finds company in the form of show openers Staind, Powerman 5000, and fast friends Skunk Anansie, whose lead singer Skin turns up on "Home." After hooking up with the band in the studio to record "Licking Cream," Skin has taken to joining the band on stage as well to share the mic with frontman Lajon Witherspoon for the song.

Of course, the irony of the two black singers delivering a heated rendition of the track while bassist Vinnie Hornsby pounds away on an instrument emblazoned with a Rebel flag is not lost on the band.

far as Sevendust is concerned, color is not an issue at all," Witherspoon told MTV News' John Norris.

"You're black?" guitarist Clint Lowery joked.

"I think we break a barrier with him having the rebel flag on his bass and me being a black man," Witherspoon continued. "That kind of confuses people, but I think it's breaking an incredible barrier... letting people know 'Hey, guess what? It can never be the way it was before, no matter how bad you want it' Nothing's going to stop us right now. We have a beautiful thing." [RealVideo]
