Savage Garden Breaks Aussie Record

August 26 [10:00 EDT] -- Savage Garden has set a new record with 13 Australian Record Industry Association Awards nominations breaking the previous record of 10 set by Cruel Sea in 1994.

The Brisbane-based Savage Garden is a new band cleaning up with their debut album, a slick, self-titled pop effort that quickly reached American gold status following its U.S. release earlier this year.

Powderfinger was next in line with seven; silverchair garnered six. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Paul Kelly and Human Nature had four each while the defunct Crowded House, John Farnham, Dave Graney, Leonardo's Bride and Fini Scad came away with three each.

Spiderbait joins Savage Garden, Crowded House, Powderfinger and silverchair in the Best Australian Group category. Best Female Talent includs Monique Brumby, Nikka Costa, Annie Crummer, Deni Hines and Wendy Matthews. The Best Male Artist contenders are Jimmy Barnes, Dave Graney, Paul Kelly, Tex Perkins and Mark Seymour.

The awards will be held September 22 in Sydney.
