Rollins Band Seeks "Illumination" In New Video

Henry Rollins and his new Rollins Band will be in Los Angeles this week to finish shooting the video for "Illumination," the first single from the group's new album, "Get Some Go Again," due out on February 15.

The new clip is being directed by Peter Christopherson, who first went to India with Rollins a few weeks ago to film scenes of the former Black Flag frontman interacting with several snake charmers.

As we previously reported, "Get Some Go Again," features Henry Rollins backed by a revamped Rollins Band -- a trio consisting of guitarist Jim Wilson, bassist Marcus Blake, and drummer Jason Mackenroth that also performs under the name Mother Superior (see [article id="1433790"]"Henry Rollins Recasts Rollins Band For New Album, Preview Tour"[/article]).

In a recent interview with the MTV Radio Network, the singer-writer-orator talked about his decision to end the previous incarnation of the Rollins Band following the 1997 tour for "Come

In And Burn.

[article id="1449975"]"Well, we came to the end of the tour in 1997,"[/article] Rollins said, [article id="1449975"]"and I felt that we had reached our musical potential. We had done our work. It's not that I was unhappy with anybody or I wanted to fire anybody. I didn't hate anyone... not [even] remotely. I really think that we did our thing and there was nothing more to say, musically, amongst us." [RealAudio][/article]

After splitting the group, Rollins returned to his spoken-word work and released a pair of albums, "Black Coffee Blues" in 1997 and "Think Tank" in 1998. Following several collegiate tours to support his 2.13.61 publishing company, Rollins says he began writing music again -- but admittedly not for himself at first.

"When I first started working on this music," Rollins said, "it

was not going to be an album. It was basically... I [originally] wrote a lot of the riffs for a guy who doesn't play an instrument. Then I talked to these guys in the band, and when they're not with me, they're their own band called Mother Superior and I produce their records."

"So we finished one of their albums, and I said, 'Would you guys help me get some ideas on tape. Maybe if I could hum you a riff, we could go in and play it. Or maybe you could write some stuff for me, or with me in mind?' And they were like, 'Yeah, great. Let's go.'" [RealAudio]
