Latifah Turns Oscar Appearance Into TV Show

She may not have actually walked off with an Oscar, but Queen Latifah still got something extra out of her appearance on the annual awards show last weekend.

The rapper-turned-talk-show-host transformed herself yet again for the Oscars, taking on the role of smooth-voiced songbird for a medley of songs that saw Latifah share vocal duties with Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Ray Charles, Isaac Hayes, and Dionne Warwick (see "Phil Collins Wins, 'Buena Vista' Loses Academy Awards").

While preparing for the ceremony, Latifah shot a behind-the-scenes at the Oscars edition of her syndicated daily talk show. As part of the show, Latifah sat down with fellow Oscar performer Garth Brooks as the country star discussed the strain that his career has placed on his marriage and why his anger with God has kept him out of church. Brooks also tells Latifah that he plans to devote much of his year to putting his house in order.

Oscar performers Isaac Hayes, Burt Bacharach, and Dionne Warwick also chat with Latifah on the show, which airs on Tuesday, March 28.

Latifah has relied heavily on her musical connections to help her show get a leg up in the crowded world of daytime talk, as the host has welcomed DMX, Lauryn Hill, Michael Stipe, Mary J. Blige, Treach, Pepa, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, and Missy Elliott on past episodes.
