Tom Petty, who has been in and out of the studio the past few months working up material for his new record, has just finished taping a segment for the final, star-studded episode of "The Larry Sanders Show."
A source in Petty's camp says the singer appears in a "hilarious" backstage scene with "Sanders" cast member Rip Torn, Oscar-nominated Greg Kinnear and country star Clint Black. The final episode of "The Larry Sanders Show" is slated to air on HBO May 31.
Petty has been jamming with the same Heartbreakers line-up that recorded 1994's "Wildflowers," and it has not been determined whether the new album will be a solo or group offering.
Petty and Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell will apprently produce the record, which does not yet have a release date. Prouducer/Guru Rick Rubin had manned the boards for Petty's last two albums.
