August 5 [12:00 EDT] -- Responding to persistent online rumors, Pearl Jam have taken to the Net themselves to state that the band does not have a new album ready for release.
In a statement on the band's "Pearl Jam Rumor Pit" site (at www.music.sony.com), the group shoots down the rumor that it recorded a "lost album" that was to be released a mere six months after the last Pearl Jam effort, ³No Code."
The Pearl Jam camp contends that the band entered the studio early this year, and is still hard at work on its fifth album.
The band also uses the forum to note that guitarist Mike McCready is recovering nicely from a baseball accident that left him with a broken left shoulder. The site reports that on June 28, the band decided to blow off some steam with a few innings of ball, and McCready suffered the accident while diving for an Eddie Vedder line drive.
Doctors had recommended
six weeks of rest for McCready, and the site notes that he should up to speed soon.
