Pavement Taking Down Time, Not Breaking Up

Once again, it appears that the rumors surrounding Pavement's demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Despite reports in the British press that the group had split, a publicist for its U.S. label, Matador Records, told MTV News that Pavement is just taking a break after back-to-back tours of the U.S. and Europe and not officially calling it quits.

The spokesperson pointed out that Pavement usually takes extended time off between albums, as the group, which formed in Stockton, California in 1989, wasn't under the same kind of pressure to keep pushing its newest album, "Terror Twilight," as a major label act would.

In the meantime, "The Slow Century," a VHS/DVD collection of Pavement videos, live footage, and interviews, is now scheduled to be released on March 7.
