October 6 [12:00 EDT] -- The six foot tall, rail thin British singer's debut LP Trailer Park is wowing critics with the union of her introspective lyrics and electronica/folk backdrops.
Orton's look is reminiscent of Suzanne Vega circa '87 (the pin brown hair, the low-key expression). Her voice ranges from mild to mighty, with a wiser-than-her-years resonance.
As for the album's title, Trailer Park, Orton was inspired while shooting the video for her first single, "She Cries Your Name" [900k QuickTime] (which reveals her Ry Cooder influences) in the Mojave Dessert.
Orton admits to being drawn to the dusty under-belly of American culture, but this newcomer is all English, complete with cockney accent, and cooler-than-thou collaborations with the Chemical Brothers and William Orbit on her resume. Pretty good for 26.
