April 15 [14:00 EST] -- Dave Mustaine and his Megadeth cohorts are set to return to record racks with "Cryptic Writings" on June 17.
Frontman/guitarist Mustaine is joined once again by Marty Friedman, Dave Ellefson, and Nick Menza on the new album's 12 tracks, which offers the latest incarnation of the chugging metal the band has thrashed out for the last 14 years.
While the band promises that the album will be vintage Megadeth, there is talk of string arrangements and acoustic numbers on the album, and Mustaine hints at some musical experimenting when talking about "Cryptic Writings."
"We made this record for not only our hard-core fans but did what we ourselves wanted as music fans. To thine own self be true," Mustaine has said of the new album.
Long known for it breakneck, intense sound, Megadeth was formed in 1983 after Mustaine parted company with another fledgling speed metal outfit known as Metallica.
