Matchbox 20 has announced a May release for its second album, the long-awaited follow-up to the band’s 1996 debut, “Yourself Or Someone Like You,” which was recently certified with a Diamond Award for sales of more than 10 million.
For the still-as-yet-untitled new record, Matchbox 20 re-teamed with “Yourself” producer Matt Serletic, who received a Grammy nomination earlier this week for his work on “Smooth,” the collaboration between Carlos Santana and Matchbox 20 singer Rob Thomas.
Thomas also benefited from the veritable landslide of Grammy nominations earned by Santana (see “UPDATE: Santana, TLC, Backstreet Boys In Grammy Running”), as the vocalist, who penned “Smooth” with Itaal Shur, was co-nominated in three categories with Santana for the track.
The “Smooth” single has been nominated for “Record Of The Year,” “Song Of The Year,” and “Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals,” and has helped “Supernatural”
reach quintuple platinum status, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.
