Ricky Martin Offered "Dirty Dancing" Sequel

After months of speculation, it appears as though a "Dirty Dancing" sequel is indeed the works and that Latin pop star Ricky Martin and actress Natalie Portman have been approached about starring in the film.

The newest scuttlebutt about a "Dirty Dancing 2" flick emerged Friday at the Cannes International Film Festival, as Miramax Films and Artisan Entertainment announced that they would join forces to update the 1987 original, according to "Variety.

The producers are seeking to sign Martin because they want to put a Latin spin on the project and plan to set the new "Dirty Dancing" movie in modern-day Miami, though neither Martin nor Portman have agreed to participate in the picture yet.

If Martin accepts an offer to star in the film, it would mark his first serious acting role since his stint as Miguel Morez on the daytime soap opera "General Hospital" in 1994-95.

Rumors about various pop stars appearing in a "Dirty Dancing" sequel have

been kicking around for some time, with Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears (see [article id="1434386"]"Britney Balks At Reports Of College, Film"[/article]) just two of the names that have been connected with the project at one time or another.
